The Verziere Column

The Verziere Column is a mannerist-Baroque monument in Milan, located in Largo Augusto, consisting of an elaborate granite of Baveno column topped by a statue of Christ. It named after the "Verziere" or "Verzee", the old fruit and vegetable market which was located around the place where it stands. It was in fact started in 1580, as a votive offering for the cessation of the epidemic plague of 1577, but only in 1673 was completed with the placement of the statue of Christ the Redeemer.
